Happy September! We’re back from our John Muir Trail adventure!
The John Muir Trail (JMT) is 208 miles of fantastically beautiful trail through the Sierra Nevada Mountains starting at Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley and culminating at the top of Mt. Whitney, which at 14,505 feet is the highest point in the continental US. The trail traverses three National Parks (Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia), a National Monument (Devils Postpile), five wilderness areas (the Yosemite Wilderness, the Ansel Adams Wilderness, the Minaret Wildnerness, Sequoia and Kings Canyon Wilderness, and the John Muir Wilderness) and two National Forests (the Inyo National Forest and the Sierra National Forest). It crosses 11 high mountain passes and offers endless vast mountain vistas, basins of alpine tarns, deep, colorful canyons, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and some of the most amazing stargazing we’ve ever experienced.
It’ll take us awhile to sort through our nearly 2000 photos and get caught back up. Stay tuned…
